Watching the zookeeper at the National Zoo give an elephant a pedicure I realized I had never thought about elephant toes. Why had I never noticed that elephants have toes?
Like an earworm song that sticks in your mind, and will not leave no matter how much you try, I couldn’t shake the thought that I had never noticed that elephants have toes.
It was bugging me so much I went back to the elephant house to look again and get a few details from the zookeeper. Alas, when I arrived it was closed for the day.
Elephant toes, why had I never noticed that elephants have toes? I know you are wondering why didn’t I just Google elephant toes on my smartphone to get the facts? It was the earworm’s fault, all I could think about was elephant toes.
Later that evening before editing images of the big cats, I pulled up the shot featured in this blog post. The zookeeper using a huge file to give the elephant a pedicure to smooth out those big beautiful elephant toes.
I am laughing as I write this blog, thinking how that earworm stuck with me the rest of the day. Oh no…
