Good News! Six days from today at 12:15 p.m. the vernal equinox will usher in the astronomical first day of spring in the northern hemisphere.
According to folklore the hours of light and darkness are equal on the day of the spring equinox. Scientifically speaking they really are not perfectly equal. Daytime begins the moment any part of the sun is over horizon and lasts until the last part of the sun has set.
As an official opponent of winter I continually watch for the signs in nature announcing that spring is getting closer.
It’s those little signals like birds singing louder, migrating birds stopping by to fuel up on their way to their summer homes.
Animals are a frisky, trees are budding, the grass is showing signs of green, Daffodils are flowering and the river waters are beginning to turn blue.
Spring is coming, spring is coming and I’m counting down the days!
