Just after dawn on an early spring morning, the cherry trees surrounding the Tidal Basin begin to show their colors. The pink and white blossoms are the most anticipated and celebrated blooms in the country. Millions of people travel to the District of Columbia in late March hoping to be present for peak bloom. As peak bloom approaches, the local residents who routinely jog, walk, or bike around the water begin to seek other routes. On this early morning, just as the sun begins its ascent into the sky, it is hard to image the trail being clogged with visitors from around the world. It is just one day closer.
